Thoughtful Design with Lasting Impact
A Home Reimagined for the Way They Live in Alamo Heights
Before
When these homeowners moved to San Antonio, they knew their home had potential—but it didn’t yet reflect how they wanted to live. The layout felt disconnected, key spaces weren’t being fully used, and everyday flow didn’t support their lifestyle.
They came to KM BUILDERS ready to transform not just the look of their home, but the way it functioned for them day to day.
After
Designing Around Their Needs, Not the Existing Layout
One of the first challenges they shared was how the home felt disjointed. The kitchen, although large, didn’t function well, and there was an immediate visual into a guest bathroom from the main living space—something that never felt quite right.
Instead of working around those limitations, we reimagined the layout entirely.
By repurposing underutilized areas and relocating key spaces, we were able to create a home that feels more intuitive, more private, and far better suited to how they move through their day.
A Kitchen Designed for How They Gather
For this client, the kitchen wasn’t just a place to cook—it was where everything happens. It needed to feel open, welcoming, and visually beautiful while still supporting everyday use.
The result is a curated kitchen that immediately draws you in.
A 10-foot island made from a single slab creates a natural gathering space for family and guests, while the surrounding design keeps the space feeling calm and cohesive. Every element—from the floating shelves to the subtle vent hood—was selected to support both function and atmosphere.
Solving Complex Challenges Behind the Scenes
What looks effortless now required significant structural work behind the scenes.
To give the homeowners the open space they wanted, we removed walls and supported an immense load from above—including a second floor and multiple rooflines. Using four 20-ton jacks and reinforced structural systems, we were able to create a seamless, open environment without visible supports.
It’s one of those details you don’t see—but it’s what makes the space feel the way it does.
Creating Spaces That Finally Make Sense
Beyond the kitchen, the transformation focused on making the entire home feel more intentional.
A previously unused bathroom was reimagined into a guest powder bath that feels more private and accessible, while the primary bathroom was redesigned to better serve both homeowners.
Instead of separate, underutilized spaces, we created a shared layout that feels open, functional, and comfortable for two people to use at once—without sacrificing that sense of calm and retreat.

A Home That Feels Thoughtful in Every Detail
From material selections to lighting, every decision was made with the client in mind.

Finishes were chosen to flow from one space to the next, creating a sense of continuity without overwhelming the home. Subtle textures, warm tones, and layered details all work together to create a space that feels both elevated and livable.
A Transformation They Could Feel
When the project came together, it wasn’t just about the visual transformation—it was about how the home felt.
The client shared that walking into their new kitchen for the first time was emotional. It was a moment where every decision, every detail, and every step of the process came together in a way that truly reflected them.
Lasting Value Beyond the Remodel
Not long after completing their renovation, the homeowners had to relocate.
What they left behind was more than a beautifully updated home—it was a thoughtfully designed space that resonated with future buyers just as much as it had with them. When the home sold, it did so at a profit, reinforcing the lasting value of intentional design and quality craftsmanship.
