However, the latest trend in cabinet designs are three-tone kitchens! The two-tone cabinet was such a popular trend that designers decided to build on it. Most two tone kitchen cabinet designs have the island as an accent color to the rest of the kitchen cabinets. In a three-tone kitchen, one more color or material is introduced to create an asymmetrical design that helps define zones or functions in the kitchen. 

There are several ways you can mix cabinet colors and other materials together. You can mix two painted cabinet colors with a stained cabinet. The way you would mix these colors and stains is by having your base cabinets one color, your upper cabinets the second color, and the third color would be your island design. You can also have your vent hood stained or painted to match one of your cabinet or island colors. If you don’t have an island design or maybe you’re looking to design your kitchen with no upper cabinets, you can also install floating shelves that are a different stain or paint color as the third accent color to your two-tone cabinet design.
