The Importance of Building Relationships in Remodeling

As you’re beginning your remodeling journey, you want to look for a remodeler who is willing to build a relationship with you, not just build your home.

The relationship you build with your remodeler is no different than any other relationship you have in your life. There needs to be trust, understanding, and communication between you and your remodeler. Your remodeler should make you feel comfortable and at ease while having confidence that they can take your remodeling wishlist and turn it into a reality. You should feel comfortable enough to build a relationship with your remodeler.

At KM BUILDERS, we’ve created processes to do just that. We first start building a relationship with you at the first phone call. Whenever you call to inquire about KM BUILDERS, you’ll be greeted by our amazing front desk associate, Kelly. She sets the tone and expectations of what to expect by sharing a warm, welcoming, and friendly hello! She’ll share all the wonderful details about our company including our history and our experience. After speaking with Kelly, she’ll help you get set up with a First Look Consultation with our owner, Keith!

When Keith first visits your home, he makes you feel comfortable right from the start. He doesn’t try to sell you or make you feel obligated to choose KM BUILDERS as your remodeler. He enjoys talking about remodeling ideas and opportunities with anyone he gets to meet because he’s so passionate about it! Keith doesn’t consider the first consultation as work; he views it as something fun!

He’ll spend an hour to an hour and a half with you, eagerly listening to all the ideas you have for your home. He’ll listen to what your vision is for your dream home, and he’ll share his thoughts as well as his expertise with you on how to create your dream home, all while making your visit fun. He’s been known to play with a dog or two and share a few laughs with your children to make them feel like they’re a part of the consultation.

After meeting with Keith, the relationship with our team continues with Morgan, which is Keith’s daughter! As our Client Experience Manager, Morgan will introduce our design team to you at your Site Assessment, where our team will take detailed measurements of the existing conditions of your home. Once our team obtains all the necessary measurements, we’ll begin the process of designing your home. You’ll begin strengthening your relationship with our in-house design team through various meetings during the design process. As you go through each design meeting and start choosing your design selections, you’ll get to know Morgan and your design team more, where each visit will begin to feel like catching up with an old friend. Your Design Consultant will lead each meeting, and Morgan will be there every step of the way, helping you build a positive relationship with our teams.

As you build an excellent relationship with our in-house design team, you then have the opportunity to build a relationship with our in-house build team. Once your project goes to contract, your Design Consultant will pass the torch to our build team, where they’ll introduce you to your Project Manager. Your Project Manager will then become your new advocate as they help you navigate the build stage of your project. They’ll communicate with you each day, providing updates on who will be working on your home and when they’ll be arriving. Each day that they’re working on your project, they’ll start to feel more like family. They’ll help keep your home clean after each day, and they’ll love on your pets! Our teams enjoy doing the extra little things for clients because they enjoy the relationships they build with our clients!

As our team builds a positive relationship with you, we’re also building and strengthening the relationship we have with our teams. We’re giving our teams constant coaching and reviewing their progress with feedback loops. After each design meeting, we have feedback loops to give our team kudos or give them constructive feedback to improve the client experience. We also provide the same coaching and feedback with our Project Managers and our in-house build team.

Not only do we invest in our team, but we also invest in our subcontractors. We ask them how we can be their favorite remodeler to work for because we care about their schedule. By asking how we can best help them, they, in turn, provide us with improved service. They appreciate that we provide them with detailed plans, they love working with our teams, we pay them promptly, and we are placed ahead in their schedule because we treat them so well.

As a company, we strive to invest in strong relationships with our clients and with our team, subcontractors, and vendors. We’ve learned that if we invest in our teams and our partners by building strong relationships with them, we can build stronger relationships with our clients. Keith likes to say,” We’re not okay with you only being okay with it” when it comes to your remodeling project. We want you to be delighted by our remodeling process and your remodeling project. That’s why building relationships in remodeling is so meaningful.

If you want to know more about our processes and how we can build a long-lasting relationship with you, call our office at 210-680-5626. Kelly would love to say hello to you and help you get started with the remodel of your dreams.
