Shavano Park Transformation Story

This spacious ranch-style home in Shavano park was anything short of beautiful with stunning features inside and out.

When you first drive up to this gorgeous Shavano Park home, you can't help but fall in love with it. The home had a beautiful exterior made up of natural stone pavers, luscious vines that climbed the exterior walls, and a rich landscape filled with mature trees and bushes. Your first impression of the home is not something you would expect to find in Texas. This home looked as if it belonged in the English countryside.

As you walked into the home, the interior was quaint but not as charming as the exterior. Once you enter from the front door, you immediately step into the living room, which then leads to the dining room and kitchen. The living room had a semi-open concept floor plan where the living and informal dining were open to each other while the formal dining room and kitchen were separated from the main living area.

The kitchen had a petite galley layout with limited space for prepping and cooking. There was a small island that allowed you to look out into the living area. However, the view was constricted by two large, thick wall columns that flanked the sides of the island. The dining room, living room, and kitchen felt closed off from each other, making the home's interior feel dark and cramped. It didn't help that all the cased openings throughout the home were small and narrow as well.

As we began remodeling the home, we wanted the home to feel light, bright, and airy. We wanted to break up the separation in the home and redesign it with more of an open-concept floor plan. We also wanted to add more of the rustic English charm into the home to match the character of the home's exterior. Our first order of business was removing the old island and the two columns that surrounded the island. Removing the island and the two large columns instantly gave this kitchen an open concept design. To support the ceiling in the kitchen, we installed a stunning raw wood beam that ran the length of the kitchen. We also installed two vertical columns on each end of the large wood beam to reinforce the kitchen ceiling for additional support.

As we continued to transform the kitchen, we installed all new maple cabinetry, a grand island with additional storage, new countertops, and a beautiful stone tile backsplash. The kitchen also features all new appliances and a pot filler to make cooking a breeze! To enhance the flow of the kitchen, we redesigned the layout of all the appliances to ensure everything was conveniently located in the new kitchen layout. The existing kitchen had a Saltillo tile floor that we decided to keep as it complemented the new kitchen design beautifully!

In the dining room and living room, we continued using the raw wood beams throughout the home by widening all the cased openings from the living room and dining room. Continuing the design of the natural wood beams allowed us to tie in the rustic charm of the kitchen design with the rest of the home. The larger cased openings added more character to the home and improved the sightlines from the dining room to the living room, making the rooms feel open to each other while maintaining some separation.

Now, as you walk into the home's interior, you feel as if you're staying in a home in the European countryside! Before the transformation, the kitchen felt cut off from the living room and dining room. Now it opens up beautifully to the rest of the home. The new open-concept design also allows for more natural light to fill the kitchen.

With the interior beautifully remodeled, we moved onto the master bathroom. As you entered the bathroom, the first thing you saw was a large soaker tub with a large and bulky surround consisting of tile and stone. Above the tub was a large window with a gorgeous view of the luscious vines on the home's exterior. The window was the primary source of natural light for the bathroom. The shower was a small stand-alone shower that featured the same tile used for the tub surround. The vanity had two sinks with plenty of cabinetry storage surrounding the vanity. The existing master bathroom had a spacious layout, but between the bulky cabinet built-ins, the tile used for the tub surround, and the small shower, the bathroom still felt cramped and dull.

We wanted this bathroom to have a vision of instant relaxation as soon as you walked through the door. To give this bathroom that relaxing spa-like atmosphere, we removed all the old cabinetry and replaced them with beautiful, hickory cabinets with a warm wood-tone stain. To complement the cabinetry, we selected soft cream-colored Cambria quartz countertops and a large vanity mirror that allowed more natural light to flow into the bathroom by reflecting that natural light from the window above the tub.

We also installed new vanity towers on the countertops to ensure the bathroom had the maximum amount of storage space but in a slimmer design. We replaced the wall tile in the shower with a beautiful queen beige marble tile and installed a larger shower head for maximum relaxation. For the grand finale of this spa-like bathroom design, we installed a stunning hammered copper clawfoot tub for the ultimate level of relaxation and rejuvenation. Now the bathroom is just as beautiful and breath-taking as the rest of the home.

This gorgeous home now has charm and character that flows from both inside and outside of the home. If your home needs a transformation, call our office at 210-680-5626 to start designing your dream home today!
