Northwest Crossing Transformation Story

A crowded kitchen is a recipe for disaster.

When our client bought their cozy home in the quiet neighborhood of Northwest Crossing, they felt like they had hit the jackpot because their best friends lived right next door. Having their best friends live right next door was one of the best things that could ever have happened for them. Instead of having a backyard fence between their homes, they decided to remove the fence so that they could walk over to each other’s house any time they wanted! They would often have barbeques together and their children would play together in their one big backyard. The house was in the perfect neighborhood with perfect neighbors in a great location, what more could they ask for?

Our client’s home had several unbeatable qualities, however, it did have one flaw and that was the kitchen. Their kitchen was average in size, maybe even a little bigger than average, but the layout didn’t work for their family. The main kitchen cabinets had an L-shaped design with a large island centered with the l-shaped cabinet design. On the other side of the island was a bay window with enough space for a small breakfast table. While most homeowners would love to have a large kitchen island, our clients were eager to ditch their island because it made the main cooking feel more like a galley kitchen design. Between their neighbors coming over frequently during the week, having their six children and their children’s friends over often as well, the kitchen quickly became crowded regularly. With as many people as they had in their kitchen, there weren’t enough places for everyone to sit for dinner.

Our clients loved their home and were in desperate need of a more functional kitchen design to allow for all their guests to be comfortable. Our team understood how important it was for them to have all their family and friends gather comfortably in their kitchen and we provided them with a kitchen design that would do just that. The first thing we did in their kitchen remodel was remove the large kitchen island. Removing the island instantly made the kitchen feel so much bigger. We also took out the old kitchen cabinets to be replaced with all-new Master Brand cabinetry.

For their new kitchen, our client wanted a modern farmhouse design, so we installed natural wood-stained cabinets for the base cabinets and white painted cabinets for the upper cabinets. We designed the kitchen with one glass front cabinet so our clients could display her depression-era glass collection that she had built together with her mom and grandmother. After years of having her collection tucked away in boxes, she was filled with so much happiness to finally have them on display. For her, they’re more than just beautiful pieces of glass, they hold wonderful memories of collecting these beautiful pieces with her mother and grandmother. For the tile backsplash, we installed timeless subway tile that accented the beautiful black and white porcelain deco tile design above the stove and prep sink.

Where the small breakfast table used to be, we installed new cabinetry in the same natural wood stain as the base cabinets. We replaced the old bay windows with new windows that sit just above the countertops which gave them a beautiful view of the backyard. Since the was too good to pass up, we decided it was the perfect spot to install their new farmhouse sink. As they rinse their dishes, they can gaze out to the scenic views of the wooded area behind their backyard. We also installed beautiful white quartz countertops throughout the whole kitchen. For the kitchen floor, we installed new Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring which was the perfect solution for their busy family. The new Luxury Vinyl Tile is scratch-resistant, very easy to clean, and warm to the touch which was ideal for our client’s home since they have several dogs.

While we were remodeling the kitchen, our clients had the opportunity for one of their family members to build a grand dining table that would take up nearly the entire dining room which was right next to the kitchen. Since we removed the kitchen island and used the breakfast nook for more cabinet space, it was the perfect excuse to finally use their dining room. With their new custom table and increased space in their kitchen, our clients are finally able to have all the friends and family gather in the kitchen without stepping on anybody’s toes. And for the first time in years, they can finally have everyone sit down for dinners together and have friends or neighbors sit down as well.

When our clients saw what their new kitchen looked like, they were speechless. They loved that they were able to have enough room to have a dance party in their kitchen if they wanted to and have all their family gathered around the table. They always knew this home would be their forever home and their new kitchen completed the warm and welcoming vision they had for their home.
