6 Tips for Selecting Your Kitchen Faucet

Choosing your kitchen faucet is like picking the jewelry to complete your perfect outfit.

A common question our designers often receive about kitchen remodels is how to select the perfect faucet. And we get it! You want to choose a faucet that's both functional and aesthetically pleasing, which is more challenging than it seems.

While the overall functionality is a key component to choosing a faucet, you also need to consider the handle style, height, arc, sprayer function, and how your faucet will be mounted. Let's take a deep dive into each of these core factors.

Handle type: When choosing a faucet, you have two options - a single handle or a double handle. Each option comes with different advantages. For example, if you cook frequently or your kitchen is a high-traffic area, a single handle faucet would be an ideal choice to give you more flexibility to easily adjust the water temperature or pressure with the tip of your finger or elbow. If you're looking to add a dramatic flare to your kitchen design, you'll want to select a double handle design, such as a bridge faucet design. A two handle faucet acts like a complimentary centerpiece for your kitchen design.

Height: As you're looking at the height of your faucet, you want to ensure it's proportionate with your sink placement. If you have a large, deep sink, such as a farmhouse sink, you'll want to select a 24" height faucet. If you have a smaller sink, you'll want to choose an 18" faucet height.

Arc: Have you ever gotten frustrated or annoyed when you tried washing a large dish in the sink because it just didn't seem to fit right under the faucet? This is where the arc of a sink comes into play. If you often use large pots, pans, or baking dishes, you'll want to select a faucet with a high arc to maneuver and clean those larger dishes easily. However, if you're looking for a faucet with a low profile that blends well with your kitchen decor, a low profile arc is the perfect fit for you.

Sprayer Function: When it comes to the sprayer function, you want to pick whatever feels most comfortable and natural for you. Most homeowners enjoy using the pull-down or pull-out sprayer as they're simple and easy to use.

Mounting position: You have two options to choose from to mount your sink - the countertop or the wall. Either option can be left up to personal preference or how it best complements your kitchen design. If you're pressed for countertop space, a wall-mounted sink allows you to have the most functionality without sacrificing style. Wall-mounted faucets also elevate and enhance your design.

Finishes: The finish of your faucet may be the most important factor to consider when choosing a faucet. Whichever finish you choose should match the finish of your cabinetry hardware. You also want to keep in mind the level of cleanliness. Chrome finishes are the most durable and therefore are the easiest to clean. Nickel finishes, which are usually "brushed," "satin," or "stainless steel," are easily prone to fingerprints and water spots, making them tougher to keep clean.
