The Timeless Beauty of Shiplap

We all know that shiplap has become a trendy design. But, is this trend just a fad or is it here to stay?

You can’t help but love the look of shiplap. It's neutral, it's simple, and it makes for a timeless design. When shiplap first started trending, it became a must-have item to include for farmhouse, country cottage, and coastal cabin designs. Shiplap was an informal way to add visual interest while giving your walls a soft, subtle texture.

While shiplap has been a popular choice for many years, some homeowners may be hesitant to use it in their homes as they feel it may not match today’s modern trends. This begs the question, can we expect to see shiplap being out of the interior design world? Joanna Gains and our design team would have to answer no to that question. When designed the right way, shiplap is still a beautiful element to include in your home!

A few ideas to incorporate shiplap into your home is by using it as an accent wall or ceiling treatment. When you use shiplap as an accent wall, you either want to use it to highlight the focal point of a room or evoke a warm, comforting atmosphere within your home. When you use shiplap as a ceiling treatment, you’ll want to pair it with faux wood beams to give your ceiling depth and dimension.

If you want to elevate the look of your shiplap design, consider painting the shiplap, installing it vertically…or both! No matter which way you decide to incorporate shiplap into your home, it’s become a key element for a well-balanced modern design as it adds thoughtful touches of charm and character.

While shiplap may have started out as a fad but now it’s become an evergreen element for stunning modern designs. So if you're looking to add shiplap to your next remodeling project, give us a call at 210-680-5626.
