King William Transformation Story

Many people dream of owning and living in a beautiful historic home, but for our client, that dream became a reality.

Our client had been on a long search for their forever home. They knew they wanted a home that had old charm and character. They had looked at home after home that checked off a few boxes on their wishlist but not all the boxes. It seemed as if their ideal forever home didn’t exist until they stumbled upon this bungalow-style home on a corner lot in the beautiful King William district.

The home had everything on our client’s wishlist. It had a beautiful front porch that was large enough to put a patio bench or small bistro table. Along the roofline, the home had ornate corbels along with other unique trim details. All the windows had classic white trim and the chimney had painted brick to match the color of the home’s exterior. The inside of the home had original hardwood floors throughout the home. The home also had beautiful original doors with raised panels and stained wood built-ins in the kitchen and the dining area. In the living room, there was a grand fireplace with a wood hearth.

The home had all the old charm and character our client was looking for, but it did have a few imperfections. The kitchen was very small and cramped because the laundry room was encroaching on the kitchen space. The kitchen also lacked cabinetry storage and the pantry was small as well since it shared the same space as the laundry room. Another challenge was that the home only had one bathroom which meant the master bedroom wasn’t a true master suite. Our client was willing to look past these imperfections because they saw the potential the home had to be their forever home.

Our client knew they would need help to turn their home’s imperfections into the dream home they knew it could be and our team was ready to lend a helping hand. We started their historic remodel by making sure to give them a true master suite. Near the back of the home right off the kitchen was a spare bonus room that we were able to convert into the master suite bathroom and closet. In the bathroom, we laid down beautiful ceramic tile floors, installed gorgeous maple wood cabinets for the vanity, and a stunning Cambria white quartz countertop.

We also designed the bathroom with a spa-like walk-in shower with wrap-around subway tile, classic white penny tile for the floor of the shower, and semi-frameless glass around the shower. We used brushed gold hardware for the sink faucets and shower faucets as well as antique brass for the light pendants above the sink to accent the historical character of the home.

Converting the bonus room was not only beneficial for the bathroom design, but it was also beneficial for the kitchen design. There was a door in the kitchen that opened to the bonus room and by converting that room into the bathroom, we removed the door which allowed our team to add more cabinetry along the back wall of the kitchen. We installed floor-to-ceiling cabinetry storage with a built-in desk nook and a bench where our clients could sit down and take off their shoes as they come in from the patio all along the back wall. As our team was demoing out the kitchen, they discovered a column of beautiful original red brick that was original to the home that we were able to work into the new cabinetry design.

This home is now everything the client could ever want and so much more. As the homeowners begin to enjoy their forever home, they now have a stunning master suite bathroom to relax in and a gourmet kitchen to cook in. With timeless modern upgrades, this house now feels like home.
