Designing Your Kitchen With Dual Kitchen Islands

It’s time to multiply your prep space and style.

In almost every kitchen remodel, one of the top must-haves on everyone’s wish list is a beautiful kitchen island. They want to be able to have plenty of prep space, room to serve, and host large gatherings while having plenty of extra seating. Now imagine having all the benefits of a grand kitchen island doubled! We know what you might be thinking, why in the world would I need two kitchen islands? Well if you enjoy entertaining frequently or cooking gourmet meals, having two kitchen islands instead of having one large kitchen island is much more practical.

The island closest to your stove becomes your prep island. In your prep island, not only will you have a dedicated space to spread out all your ingredients needed for cooking or baking, but you can also include additional appliances or specialty items such as an easy pull-out cabinet for a blender or mixer. For additional appliances, you can include a second dishwasher, a second oven, or an under counter fridge in your island design for increased utility and functionality. And the best part of including additional appliances in your prep island is that you don;t have to worry about taking away from any cabinetry storage along your perimeter walls!

With one island dedicated to prep space and cooking, your second island becomes the “play island” and acts as a gathering space. The second island is where you can set out hors d'oeuvre, have extra seating for guests to mingle, or use as a breakfast bar. If your kitchen opens up to your living room or other rooms in the home, the second island is a great translation space where guests can feel a part of the entertainment in both the kitchen and living space. Your second island also has the potential to be a complimentary focal point for your kitchen design. And last but not least, one of the biggest benefits to having a second island is that it becomes a buffer space between your guests and your cook space and you can avoid anyone encroaching on you while you’re cooking.

As an added bonus to having dual kitchen islands, you have double the storage space for all your kitchen necessities and other miscellaneous items.
