WHAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ROOM ADDITIONS / by Keith Moehle

When your home is starting to feel cramped, you are faced with two options. You can either move out or add on to your home with a room addition.

Neither choice is easy, but it’s important that you have all the information necessary to make the right decision for you and your family. Clients are always excited to begin room additions because they are getting substantially more square feet, which can’t be done in any other remodeling project.

When deciding to do a room addition, most people are thinking of adding on to the side of their home or extending the back of their home. But did you know that you can also do an addition by adding a second or third story to your home?

When adding on to your home by building up, you have a few advantages. You don’t have to worry about giving up yard space. Building up also eliminates worry about zoning restrictions. Another advantage you gain by building up is that most times it will cost you less because you don’t need to pour an additional foundation

However, when adding a second floor to an existing home some clients are concerned that it won’t look natural or they will have foundation problems. But let’s break down both of these myths:

  1. Our clients are always surprised at how natural adding a 2nd floor actually looks. A second story addition will flow seamlessly with your existing home and will look like it has always been there if it has been properly designed!

  2. If you are worried about the foundation, the standard for 1-story and 2-story houses are the same! So we are able to build right on top of your existing first floor without you worrying about any future foundation problems.
