7 SIGNS YOUR HOME IS READY IS READY FOR A REMODEL / by Keith Moehle

As you look around your house, are you starting to wonder if it’s time to remodel? Here are a few telltale signs that your home is ready for a remodel.

Figuring out when to start a remodeling project can be a daunting question. There are all sorts of thoughts racing through your mind like am I actually ready to begin remodeling, does my house really need to be updated, where do I begin, etc. The wish lists begin to pile up but you’re just not sure if it’s the right time to start.

Well here are 7 signs to look out for that your home is ready for a remodel.

  • The paint looks dingy and is beginning to chip: As your home ages and shows signs of deterioration, the interior and exterior paints will be one of the first aging signs. The paint will begin to chip and change color as a result of dirt and grime over the years. A fresh coat of paint on the walls, baseboards, and cabinets can do wonders for your home. A few coats of paint and your home will look brand new!

  • The floor needs to be replaced: As your home begins to age, you’ll see it start to show in the flooring. The tile in your kitchens and bathrooms will start to detach as a result of the grouting wearing out. The carpet will also show signs of wear and tear. The color of the carpet will fade and begin to look dingy. These are sure signs that your floors are needing to be updated.

  • The roof is leaking: A leaky roof is never a good sign. This can mean one of two things; the roofing installer and service previously used was no good or your home has started deteriorating. A leaky roof can also mean that your exterior paint is starting to deteriorate. A new roof and a new paint job are two remodeling projects that go hand in hand.

  • Your home feels crowded or empty: As your family grows and your lifestyle changes, the functionality of your house changes too. With a growing family, your house may become crowded and you might need to think about creating more space to match the flow of your family. Or one day you might walk into your house and feel that it’s too spacious and is needing to be redesigned to make it feel like home again.

  • You have termite damage: Termite damage will only mean one thing, your home needs a renovation. The presences of pests and termites usually mean that your home has low-quality materials or has deteriorating materials. If you have a pest or termite problem, your home without a doubt qualifies for a remodel.

  • Your house feels dated: If you have an older home built before the early 2,000’s, the styles that were popular then are more than likely not popular now. Older houses will tend to have gold finishes with pink or green tile in the kitchens and bathrooms that are just not appealing in the 20th century. If your home has these features, it’s definitely time to upgrade.

  • The kitchen and bathrooms look old: The kitchen and bathrooms are the most important rooms in the house. If you add a fresh coat of paint and upgrade the fixtures but don’t upgrade your kitchen and bathrooms, your home will still feel old and outdated. Modernizing these spaces will bring your home quickly up to date. There’s never really a good time or bad time to start a remodeling job, but these signs are a great way to get started. You may want to do them in phases or you can do them all at once.
