If you live in South Texas, a radiant barrier is something that you need to know about! IT is installed in your attic to reduce heat expansion which will travel to the cool areas of your home without a radiant barrier.

A radiant barrier’s primary goal is to keep your house cooler. It is an aluminum-based metal product that is very similar to house wraps because both of these products are reflective. This makes the heat travel out of your house.

It was originally a space age technology that was used on spaceships & rockets to keep the heat out, so it has been tested and proven to work.

There are- 2 different forms of Radiant Barrier: 1) Foil and 2) Spray.

Radiant Foil comes in a roll that is stapled to the underside of the roof rafters in your attic. It can be slightly more effective than spray, but it can't be placed in hard-to-reach, small areas on your roof. So the open spaces will still allow heat to make its way into your home. A downside of foil is if you ever have a roof leak. The foil can be problematic because it will make it difficult to locate where the leak is coming from and you will have to remove the foil and then have it reinstalled.

Radiant Spray is sprayed throughout the entire roof in your attic and can be sprayed in every nook & cranny for full coverage, but it has a slightly weaker heat resistance barrier. If you ever have a roof leak, you will quickly be able to identify where it is coming from, unlike the Radiant Foil.

Whether you chose the foil or spray version of Radiant Barrier, it has the capability of keeping your attic up to 30 degrees cooler which will save you money on your energy bill!

Both of the products have about the same level of effectiveness because the foil has a stronger barrier, but can’t be used in every spot, while the spray can cover every part of the roof, but has a weaker barrier.

We recommend the spray because it is just as effective and you have a leak you won't have to tear out the material to find where it’s coming from.

But at the end of the day, it’s a win-win situation whichever way you go!
