What is a Contract & Why it's Important / by Keith Moehle

Contracts can be confusing. Figuring out what they mean can be really confusing. So, we want to clear things up to give homeowners a better idea of what a remodeling contract entails.

A contract will give you the right to take legal action in regards to your remodel; however, it doesnโ€™t provide ultimate protection. It allows you to go to court if a worst case scenario occurs, since you have a written document to back yourself up. That way your contractor has to oblige to what is stated in the written document.

That being said, it is very important to read over the contract that is presented to you to be aware of how everything is going to be handled in your remodel. If you take your time to understand the document, there will be no miscommunication between you and your contractor.

The #1 thing to review in your contract is the scope of work that your contractor is responsible for. For example, if you are doing a kitchen remodel make sure you have written down whos in charge of demo, cabinets, countertops, flooring, painting, finishing touches, and a final clean. These are just a few things that can be a guide when reading over the contract and making any extra additions to it when you see fit.

Here at KM BUILDERS we go over any questions you have with our contract, because we respect you as a homeowner and want you to have rights. Give us a call today at 210-680-5626 to get started on your next remodel with a fair remodeling contact to protect all parties involved.
